Iwan WALTERS (Greenvale) (10:02): Thank you, Monsignor Fadhel Yaqeen Yakob Alqass Ashaq, for welcoming me and the member for Broadmeadows back to the beautiful new Holy Spirit Church in Campbellfield this week. So much progress has been made building this stunning home for the Syriac Catholic Church in Melbourne since my last visit, and I am delighted that the occupancy permit was issued just this week, bringing that opening so much closer to reality. It has been inspirational seeing the impact of the work that community members have made, from suppliers to tradies, who have donated so much time, money and energy to building this church. It really is of the community and in the community, and the Syriac community that has arrived in Australia over the last 10 years will have a home – the first Syriac church not just in Melbourne but in Australia. This is a momentous occasion, and I cannot wait to be back for the formal opening and blessing very, very soon.
